A Poem in Nepali
(Political Gigolo)

An Essay for High School Students
Nepalese
Cultures
Culture is a social behavior
which may vary in different places or community. This social behavior is
created by people themselves and follows as their tradition. Culture is the
identity of a person, society or country. Some cultures are good whereas some
are bad. A culture which is observed in a place may not acceptable in another
place. We have our own cultures in Nepal.
Greeting: Nepalese
people use the word "Namaskar" to greet the elderly people and
"Namaste" to the colleagues and younger people. We use the body
gesture with this word - two palms are joined together, keep upright and put
them on chest or in front of face. To respond it, the another person also does
the same. We normally do not prefer physical contact while greeting.
Clothes: As a casual
wear, men wear shirt or T-shirt and pants, and women wear sari and blouse.
Daura-suruwal, coat and Nepali cap is the national costume of our country.
People are not generally supposed to expose much body part in Nepal.
Food and drink: Plain
rice, lentil gravy, mixed vegetable curry, salad, pickles are our common food.
Nepalese people normally eat four times a day. In the morning we have a light
breakfast. Some hours after breakfast, we
have our lunch which is big one. In the afternoon we have another light
snacks, and in the evening we have a heavy supper. We use our hand to eat food,
and we are not supposed to use our left hand to eat food.
The
people of different castes and places have their own cultures regarding
greeting, wearing clothes and foods. Nowadays we can see some changes in these
cultures because of the alien culture's influence. If we want to keep our own
identity alive, we must follow our cultures. Our cultures are our precious
heritage.
